OUTING:

Our Active Retirement Group enjoyed a wonderful outing to West Kerry on Tuesday May 29th. First stop was in Dingle town for morning tea and coffee. Next was the ‘Slea Head Drive’ to Dunquine where we had a clear view of the Blaskets. We watched a video in the Blascaod Mór Centre, had lunch in Tigh Áine, looking out on Smerwick Harbour, Sybil Head and ‘The Three Sisters’, after which we visited Gallarus Oratory. Last stop was The Towers Hotel in Glenbeigh were we were served a delicious dinner. ‘Thank You’ to David who organised the trip and to our helpful driver Susan. Go mbeirimid to léir beo are an am seo arís le cúnamh Dé.

DEATHS:

Timmy Clifford, formerly of Scarriff, has died in Manchester. Sincere sympathy to his nephews Noel and Seán, nieces Kathleen, Mary B, Frances and their families.

Pádraig Quinlan, late Baslicon has died in New York. Sincere sympathy to his brother Michael, sister Sr. Kathleen, nephews, nieces and all his relatives. Suimhneas síoraí dá n-amamacha dílse.

WELL DONE:

to the girls of St. Finian’s national school who won the inaugural South Kerry schools soccer competitio­n on Thursday last. The winning team was: Holly Galvin (capt), Lauren Curran, Clodagh Dwyer, Maddie Courtney, Sarah Murphy, Clionadh O’ Shea, Lauren Fitzgerald and Meabh Courtney.

KENYA:

Donie O’Shea from Islandboy is going as a volunteer to Kenya for 2 weeks from June 30th with Africa Direct. It’s his third trip and this year he will be working with other volunteers in the Mukuru Slums in Nairobi, where there is an estimated 700,000 people living in extreme poverty. Donie pays his own expenses and accepts donations of cash or cheques, payable to Africa Direct, or http://www.gofundme. com/direct-fundraisin­g-mukuru-kenya. Thank you to all who donated last year.
