Hurling action turns parochial with four County SHC first round ties

THE opening round of the Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Hurling Championsh­ip are fixed for this weekend. All games will be played at Austin Stack Park, Tralee, with extra-time if necessary. On Saturday, Lixnaw meet Kilmoyley at 5.30pm while reigning champions, Ballyduff take on Abbeydorne­y at 7.15pm. On Sunday, Ballyheigu­e play Crotta at 2pm followed by St Brendan’s v Causeway at 3.45pm. Round 2 will be played on the weekend of June 30 / July 1, Round 3 on the weekend of July 29, the semi-finals on Saturday, August 11 and the final is scheduled for Sunday, August 26.

JOE MCDONAGH CUP

The Kerry senior hurlers completed their Joe McDonagh Cup campaign with a 1-25 to 2-19 away win against Antrim last Saturday. This game also signalled the end of their competitiv­e season for 2018. Thanks to all who played Kerry senior hurling during the season, in particular to the panel of players under the team manager Fintan O’Connor, selectors Brendan Cummins & Ian Brick, Coach Brian Culbert, trainer John Barry and Co. Hurling Officer, Paudie Dineen.

COUNTY LEAGUES

The County Senior Hurling League Division 2 results: St. Brendan’s 2-19 Lady’s Walk 1-21; Dr. Crokes w/o from Abbeydorne­y; Lixnaw 6-7 Kilmoyley 1-12; Causeway 3-18 Kilmoyley 2-11.

Round 3 games: Division 2A - Austin Stacks have a bye; Dr. Crokes v Ballyheigu­e (June 18 at 8pm); Abbeydorne­y v Kenmare (June 20 at 8pm).

Division 2B - Lixnaw v Causeway (June 18 at 7.30pm); St. Brendan’s v Kilmoyley (June 13 at 7.30pm); Lady’s Walk v Crotta (June 18 at 7.30pm) (all first named teams at home).

Round 4 is scheduled for Friday, June 22.

GAMES DEVELOPMEN­T ADMINISTRA­TOR

COISTE NA NÓG

In the County U-14 hurling league Division 2 Final played at Dromakee last Saturday, St. Brendan’s had a 9-12 to 1-3 win over Kilmoyley. The St. Brendan’s captain was Keith O’Mahony.

Well done to the Kerry teams who participat­ed in the national Féile na nGael U-14 competitio­ns last weekend. Ballyduff reached the semi-final of Division 2 where they lost out to Naas. Lixnaw got to the Division 5 Shield semi-final and South Kerry went as far as the Division 9 Cup semi-final. Congratula­tions to Causeway on winning the Division 5 camogie title.

NORTH KERRY U-10 BLITZ

In the North Kerry U-10 Blitz held on Saturday last at Abbeydorne­y, the Group winners were Ballyheigu­e & Crotta, who won all their games. Well done to the club s who took part - St. Brendan’s Causeway, Ballyheigu­e, Lixnaw, Tralee Parnell’s, Kilmoyley, Abbeydorne­y and Crotta. Thanks to the competitio­n co-ordinator, Mikey Leahy, and all in the Abbeydorne­y club for running the Blitz so efficientl­y and to all the players, mentors, parents and guardians who all played their part. The next U-10 Blitz will take place at Ardfert onSaturday,7July.

The North Kerry U-11 league continues on this Friday, with the following fixtures: Group 1 - Ballyduff v Tralee Parnell’s; Kilmoyley v Lixnaw; St. Brendan’s bye. Group 2 – Causeway v Abbeydorne­y; Ballyheigu­e v Crotta. All games at 6.30pm, first named at home.
