‘Littor beach was special; it was one of his favourite places’

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

HE passed away over a year ago, but the memory of Fr Pat Moore still lives on in the hearts and minds of the people of north Kerry.

In honour of the great work that Fr Moore did, some members of the Asdee Community Development Fund have come together to try and fund the building of a special permanent memorial bench to him on his beloved Littor Beach.

“We wanted to remember him. Fr Pat had given an awful lot to the community and to everyone in general,” said Donie O’Keeffe, speaking to The Kerryman on Friday.

“We wanted something that was special and something that would be there long after we’ll be gone.

“Littor Beach was very special to him. He always reckoned that it was one of his favourite places.”

The bench will have a unique spiral design and Donie said that this design was chosen for a very special reason.

“We chose this design because we want the bench to embrace people. We wanted the design to be embracing and warm and to draw you in,” said Donie.

The project is entitled ‘Sit With Me’, and the group is currently fundraising to help cover the cost of the memorial bench; it has so far raised close to €2,000 of its €5,000 goal.

“We’re heading in the right direction,” he laughed.

“We hope this memorial bench, looking out over the Shannon, can be used as a place to reflect on and cherish life, while sharing a spot that Fr Pat adored.”
