The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Wonderful day as Anna and Orla wed

-

THE recent wedding took place in the beautiful setting of the Valentia Lighthouse of Anna Griffiths and Orla O’Carroll, with the reception afterwards at a marquee at their residence in Cooil Road, Middle Tennis. (formerly Mary McCarthy’s).

Anna is from Oundle in Cambridgeshire, while Orla is from Greystones, County Wicklow. The couple lives in Bristol, and Orla’s father is from Kerry. Her mother is from West Limerick.

Her sister is an actor and celebrant and led the beautiful ceremony under the Lighthouse Standing Stone.

As a family, the O’Carrolls came to south Kerry every year for their holidays. Orla’s parents still do, twice a year, since their honeymoon 45 years ago.

The couple bought a house, situated in Cooil Road, in February 2017, and 60 of their family and friends from Bristol, Cambridgeshire, Wicklow and Kerry came together for their wedding.

Afterwards, everybody adjourned to their house, where the very talented local traditional musicians Celtic Vibe played in the garden.

The couple have known each other for seven years and both work in comedy, events-management and catering.

The following is a statement from Manager of the Valentia Lighthouse Wendy Blemings: “We were delighted when the girls chose the grounds of the lighthouse as the setting for the blessing of their relationship, with the standing stone being a particularly poignant location.

“Having stood through thousands of years of Irish history, we suspect that this wedding beside it was a first.

“We wish them well in their new journey together as wife and wife, and look forward to welcoming them back year after year to the site where they shared their love and commitment.

“Love and light from Cromwell Point.”
