JANET ‘JAN’ MCMAMARA

ON Friday, June 15, the death in Birmingham occurred of Janet (Jan) McNamara (née Hinton). She passed away peacefully at the age of 51 after a six-year battle with terminal illness, borne with a lot of admirable courage and strong will in living life to as normal a degree as possible. She and her husband Bill were married 28 years ago and, their anniversary was to occur on Saturday, June 16, the day after Jan’s death. Jan was a road traffic police officer, serving for almost 30 years up until her illness. She and Bill (also a police officer, now retired) first visited Valentia in 1990, coming on their honeymoon. The Valentia connection is that Bill is a first cousin to Eileen O’Neill of Middle Tennis.

They loved to go on holidays to Valentia regularly, staying at their holiday home in Coromore. They were here as recently as last April. Over the years they made friends with a lot of people here and were very popular.

All of their friends in Valentia Island would like to offer their sincere condolences to her husband Bill and all family members concerned. Solás na bhFlaitheas dá hanam.
