The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Brilliant weekend for Kingdom

-

LAST Saturday was a joyous occasion for Kerry fans as they retained both the Minor and Senior Munster titles.

It was great to see such a large Kerry crowd in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and both teams appreciated the vocal support. Full credit to Cork County Board on the fine redevelopment of the stadium.

The minors were very impressive against Clare and ran out convincing winners on a 3-21 to 1-7 scoreline. Brosna’s Paul Walsh was named as Man of the Match.

The first 10 minutes of the senior game was exhilarating and it looked like we were in for a real thriller. This didn’t transpire, however, and the intensity dropped in the second half.

The game afforded manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice the option to run his bench and each one that came on seized the opportunity to impress. The game finished Kerry 3-18 Cork 2-4. Paul Geaney was named Man of the Match and many others were in close contention after a great team performance.

Kerry are now through to the Super 8s and tougher tests lie ahead. First up it’s Galway in Croke Park on the weekend of July 14/15. One way of guaranteeing yourself a stand ticket at all Super 8 games is by joining the Kerry GAA Ticket Scheme, email mauriceomeara@ kerrygaa.ie for further information.

Congratulations to Peter Keane and the Minors and to Éamonn Fitzmaurice and the Seniors and we hope to have a long summer ahead!

Under 20s

THE Kerry Under 20s played Waterford in the Munster Semi Final last Friday night in Austin Stack Park and came away with a very comprehensive win.

The game finished Kerry 3-22 Waterford 0-1. Kerry have home venue for the Munster final where they meet Cork in Tralee on Friday night at 7.30pm. Cork will benefit from their tough game last weekend against Clare and will prove to be a much tougher opposition for Kerry.

Kerry really are untested so far in the competition so a big performance is needed to overcome this strong Cork side. The Munster Under 20 final throws in at 7.30pm and the referee is Seán Lonergan (Tipperary).

Junior Final

THE Junior team to face Cork on Wednesday night was named last Monday night.

Kilcummin’s Kieran Murphy captains the side. The game throws in at 7.30pm in Austin Stack Park, Tralee. The referee is Alan Kissane (Waterford). We wish manager Jimmy Keane and his selectors Pol Ó Cuinn, Daniel Murphy and John O’Connell and the Junior Panel the best of luck.

We hope there will be a large Kerry support on the night to cheer them on in their first outing of the year.

Lotto

THE numbers drawn were 3,7,19,28. Mike Hussey Ballyduff and James Matthews Dublin won the €50 lucky dips.

The special monthly lucky dip draw for the Kerry GAA Lotto was made last Monday night. Congratulations to Tommy Griffin, Dingle who won two tickets to see Michael Bublé in concert in Croke Park.

Remember, if you select Auto-Renew on your lotto ticket before June 30, you will be automatically entered into a draw to win: 2 Tickets to see all of the Round 1 games of the Super 8s which will be played in Croke Park on July 14 & 15 and two nights accommodation in the Croke Park Hotel!
