GREEN FLAG

Congrats to Scartaglin NS who were recently awarded their first Green Flag in recognition for tackling issues of litter and waste in their school and community. The pupils assisted by teacher Cora Doody worked to reduce the amount of litter and waste in the school and they also increased their recycling output. Receiving the green flag was a wonderful achievement in what was a whole school effort and much hard work put in by all the pupils. So well done again to all for having their work and efforts rewarded.

TURF HARVESTING

It’s been a good year for turf harvesting and many rural people still cut turf and for the past number of weeks local bogs have seen much activity as plot holders have been busy drawing out and drawing home the turf. Many householders now rely on oil fired central heating to warm their homes that is a very quick and efficient source of heat, but hard to beat a really good turf fire on a cold winter’s night.
