Kerry match clashes with World Cup final
CROKE Park has sensationally fixed the Kingdom’s opening game of the Super 8s for the exact same time as the FIFA World Cup final in Moscow on July 15. GAA Headquarters confirmed the fixture late on Tuesday afternoon leading to a certain amount of consternation and outcry on social media, with former Kerry footballer Tomás Ó Sé tweeting: “If World Cup final was on Saturday night @Kerry_Official would be playing Saturday evening guaranteed!!! Just soak it up boys!!”.
The game with Galway is hotly anticipated, but a clash with the World Cup final is sure to hurt attendance at the game. Coming just a week after the Newbridge or Nowhere controversy it’s an interesting call by the CCCC (Central Competitions Control Committee).
Meanwhile, Kerry will learn who else they’re to face in the Super 8s this weekend after the Round 4 qualifiers.
