Caherdaniel duo raise awareness of MN with colourful makeovers

-

TWO Caherdaniel men have quite literally gone green to help raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease.

Recently, Tom and Eddie O’Donghue had their hair dyed at Caherdaniel village Hall to mark Motor Neurone Disease Day which fell on June 21.

Every year since 1997, the MND community worldwide has marked June 21 as the global day of recognition of MND – a disease that affects people in every country on earth. June 21 is a solstice – a turning point – and each year the MND community come together to raise awareness and funds.

In Ireland, about 110 people die every year from the disease, which mainly affects adults over the age of 40.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

All patients experience different progression of the disease, which can affect walking, talking and breathing. The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is a charity which supports those with the condition and their loved ones.
