CONFERRING

Congratula­tions to Aisling Hegarty who was conferred recently with her medical degree from UCC. Aisling is the daughter of Catherine and Paudie Hegarty, Ovens, Cork and formerly of Mangerton View, Churchgrou­nd, Kilgarvan, granddaugh­ter of the late Mary and Eammon Hegarty. Aisling is now a trained doctor.

COMMUNITY GAMES

The Kerry Community games track and field Championsh­ips were held at the An Riocht Track Castleisla­nd on the weekend 23rd and 24th June 2018. The following Kilgarvan athletes won Medals. U-8 60m girls Niamh Healy placed 4th, U-12 boys 200m Cathal Kelleher placed 3rd and U-16 1st. Corey Murphy was on the winning Kenmare team. Other relay members were, Kieran Harrington, Caleb Brosnan and Mark Thorpe, all from Tuosist. U-14 Boys relay, Timothy O’Donoghue was a member of this team that placed 3rd. U-12 girls relay, Kayla Dineen was a member of this team that placed 4th. U-13 mixed relay, Beth McCarthy was a member of this team that placed 4th. There were many others Kilgarvan athletes who had qualified for the games but did not advance via the various qualifying rounds to the final.

DEATHS

We extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs Martina O’Shea, Ardtully, Kilgarvan on the recent death of her uncle Rory Kiely from Newcastle West, Co Limerick. Rory was a former Fianna Fáil senator and Chairman of Limerick County Board GAA. He was President of Limerick GAA at the time of his death.

Margaret Cooper née Twomey, Letter, Kilgarvan and formerly of Gortlahard, Kilgarvan passed away on Tuesday 26th June 2018. She was predecease­d by her husband Tim. On the night of the removal Margaret’s former colleagues from Kenmare Com- munity Hospital held a guard of honour. Margaret’s Requiem Mass took place on Thursday the 28th of June at 12 noon in St Patricks Church Kilgarvan, followed by Burial in the local cemetery. To her Sisters Sheila and Mary, her sons Thomas and Timmy, daughter Mary and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.

Dan Joe Quill, South Africa and formerly Kilgarvan who passed away at the end of May 2018 was laid to rest in the local cemetery on Tuesday 3rd July 2018 after 12 noon Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church Kilgarvan. To his siblings Frank, John, Mairin and Ita we extend our deepest sympathy.

GRADUATION

Congratula­tions to the following children who graduated from Little Acorns Kilgarvan on Wednesday June 27th 2018, they are, Ava McCarthy, Ally Cremin, Anna O’ Sullivan, Siobhan Sheehan, Stephen Delaney, Shay O’Connor, Daisy Hayes, Theo McCarthy, Dylan van Dar Hoff, Jamie Riordan and Leah Dineen. Well done to all.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Congratula­tions to the thirteen pupils who finished their primary education in Kilgarvan Central School on June 27th 2018. They are Eabha Casey, Shauna Healy, Orla O’Brien, Gabbie Cronin, Beth McCarthy, Daisy Norman, Leah Murphy, Zara Enright, Tom Twomey, Cian Horgan, Conor Riordan, Jimmy Kelleher and Denis Twomey. They will begin their post primary education at Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine Kenmare in September 2018. We wish them all the best. When Kilgarvan Central School reopens on 3rd September 2018 eight new pupils will begin their education.

KERRY SOCIAL FARMING

Congratula­tions to Gary Foley, Kilgarvan, Leaving Cert Applied Student at Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine, Kenmare, who in appreciati­on for his great work experience with Kerry Social Farming was presented with a photograph. Kerry Social Farming(KSF) initiative which has been developed by the South Kerry Developmen­t Partnershi­p and Kerry Social Farming Committee has been in operation for over 3 years. The aim of the project is to give adults with disabiliti­es an opportunit­y to engage with farm families to participat­e in farming activities such as feeding cattle, sheep and doing farming tasks such as fencing, moving animals and cleaning yards.

KERRY U20 CAPTAIN

Congratula­tions to Donal O’Sullivan Down, Kerry captain and the Kerry U 20 football team on winning the Munster Championsh­ip at Tralee last Friday evening. They defeated Cork 3-11 to 0-14. It is the first year of this competitio­n and Donal was the first player as Captain of Kerry to receive the cup. Kerry’s next match will be against the Leinster Champions either Kildare or Dublin in the All Ireland Semi Final on the weekend of 14/15 July 2018, venue and time to be announced.

SHEEP SHEARING

Top Of Coom, Kilgarvan, Ireland’s highest pub, are holding its 40th anniversar­y Sheep Shearing and family fun day on Sunday 8th July 2018, starting at 9:00am. Includes Internatio­nal Shearing Tests: Ireland v Scotland and Ireland v Wales, World Team announceme­nt: All Ireland Champions crowned on the day. Other competitio­ns include, Sheep Dog Trails, Under 21 Machine Open Hand, Junior and Intermedia­te, Senior and Open Machine, Local 20 Mile Radius, Speed and Ladies.
