‘Red bull and wine make quare bedfellows’

‘RED Bull and wine make for quare bedfellows’, Kenmare District Court heard this week.

The colourful phrase was by solicitor Pádraig O’Connell defending Frenchman Martin Meidy, who pleaded guilty to a charge of theft after taking two bottles of wine and five cans of Red Bull from the Daybreak shop in Main St, Kenmare on May 13 last. Mr O’Connell said his client now knows that wine “even for the French, is not liberally available in this country.”

He said his client has an underlying issue with alcohol but would not repeat the incident. Mr Meidy, Sheen Falls Lodge, Kenmare, got the benefit of the Probation Act.
