Lots to keep people entertained at the Sneem Summer festival

-

ALL festivals must keep evolving if they want to stay ahead of the posse and the Sneem Summer Festival Committee do just that. Keeping the old favourites while introducing one or two new events helps keep everything running smoothly.

The opening night starts on Wednesday with a blessing by Fr O’Brien at the festival marquee. This will be followed by family fun and a barbecue. A sample of this year’s schedule includes a good blend of old and new favourites: falconry, deep sea fishing, children’s crab fishing, scenic and historic walks, Sneem River Run and Kayaking, a children’s fancy dress, craft making, pony rides, and a village treasure hunt.

South Kerry is also home to one of Europe’s most spectacular astronomy destinations and Sneem festival goers will have the exciting Planetarium Dome to look forward to.

New this year is a Golf Scramble and line dancing workshop, while Turbutt’s Fun Fair will be there. The popular 5k ‘Colourful’ Fun Run, and the Richard Walsh Memorial Blitz never fail to produce some competitive fun. There will be a beautician to show teenagers how to work the perfect foundation and contour. In short: there’s everything from music and inflatable fun, to a ‘Bee on a Branch’ workshop with Sharon from Green Chair as part of Sneem Tidy Towns’ Pollinator theme. Everything’s covered.

“We’ve added some new events this year as it’s important to keep the festival vibrant, but this hasn’t been at the cost of the old events which go down a treat with patrons,” said Amy Foley, of the Sneem Summer Festival Organising Committee.
