Castlegregory Summer Festival

12th-15th July 2018

-

On Saturday the annual arts and crafts exhibition - always a popular draw with visitors - takes place in The Castlegregory Craft Centre. The Castlegregory ‘fair and heritage day’ runs from 9am to 5pm on Forge Road. And look out for the pop up festival hair and glitter art on Saturday! Later that evening the Queen Selection Party and Barbecue takes place at Ned Natterjacks, while The Renavator Band will play at the West End Hall.

This year’s Castlegregory Summer Festival also has a strong charitable aspect and money will be raised for two worthy charities: Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and Friends from Ireland Charity (which helps build schools in Africa). Moreover, the rest of the money raised goes back into the local community for various projects.

Sunday is also packed full of family fun. You’ll even get a chance to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Paw Patrol’s Skye and chase, Peppa Pig and many more. There’s a Children’s Nature walk in association with Maharees Heritage and Conservation Association which starts at Beal Geal/Sandy Bay. The ‘Trad Trail’ around the village on Sunday evening, finishing with an open air mega traditional Irish music session never fails (all musicians welcome). There’s a Cocktail party in Boland’s Bar, while the foam party is another date for the diary. Sunday night sees the selection of the Festival Queen to be followed by the popular parade through the village. All businesses and sports clubs are encouraged to take part this year and help make it an enjoyable event.

“We have a great sub-committee of very enthusiastic people who enjoy being involved, this is a major asset. I would also call on as many businesses and organisations as possible to get involved in the parade and that there is cash prizes for floats available. Lastly, I’d like to thank all the people and volunteers who help make this festival possible,” Maura added.

Brandon Half Marathon and 10km is a great addition to the festival...

It’s billed as Ireland’s only all-beach running event and it takes place on Saturday, July 14 as part of the Castlegregory Summer Festival. There’s really no better way to work, rest and play then a run the beach at Brandon Bay, while also enjoying the nearby festivities.

The half marathon starts at 10:30am and the 10km run starts at 11:30am presenting a unique challenge for running enthusiasts. Run entirely on a golden, sandy beach, the terrain stretches around Brandon Bay all the way from Fahamore in the Maharees, to Fermoyle Point under Mount Brandon itself.

A race pack collection & walk-in registration evening takes place on Friday 13th from 5-11pm in the club rooms in Castlegregory (next to SPAR). NOTE: Due to the remote location of the event there are no registrations or race pack collections on the day of the event.
