DENNY DIVISION 1B FINAL Asdee Rovers v Listowel Celtic B Thursday July 12 Mounthawk Park, 7 45pm

THE last league final of the season is down for decision at Mounthawk Park next weekend between Asdee Rovers and Listowel Celtic B.

This division has been very competitive with four teams Windmill United, Listowel Celtic B, Asdee Rovers and Castlegregory in contention going into the final two games of the season when they all met each other with a big prize at stake.

Castlegregory were leading this division for a while but Windmill got a sequence of good results together.

Asdee made a late surge and wins over Castlegregory and Windmill booked their place in the final.

During their 42 years in the KDL Asdee have never won a league title being promoted several times as runners up before the introduction of finals.

The only time they got to the final was in 2013 when they lost the Premier B final 2-0 to Killorglin.

The club appointed a players management set up this season with Kenneth Tydings and Joseph O’Brien in charge of the team.

They were behind on points towards the end of the season, but they had a few games in hand and won two vital games at the end of the season against fellow title contenders Castlegregory and Windmill United and it was these points that clinched their place in the decider.

Listowel Celtic were down the table early in the season, but they got a very consistent run together which catapulted them up the table to secure a play off against Windmill United which they won on Sunday.

Matthew Bergin and John McGlynn took charge of this team at the start of the season and they have brought them a long way to reach the decider.

Celtic are a young side who play an appealing brand of passing football which is difficult to handle by opponents.

They will be going into this game with a lot of confidence and are well capable of winning if they play up to scratch. However, Asdee have beaten them twice in the league but that will count for nothing on this occasion as Celtic have considerably strengthened their team since then.

Asdee have a good blend of youth and experience in their squad and will be doing their utmost to capture their very first league title. It should be a tight game and the younger Celtic side may have too much speed for Asdee on this occasion.
