SOME of the biggest stars of soap have descended on Killarney this week as they prepare for a series of performances of the hit UK and Broadway musical, ‘Legally Blonde’.

A musical based on the hit 2001 Reese Witherspoon film of the same name, this award winning production will be showing in the INEC from July 11 to July 14; the show has been touring the UK since September 2017 and is now set for a tour of Ireland.

An all star cast of familiar faces has been assembled for the production, with audiences promised a night that has been described as an “all singing, all dancing romantic comedy, a fun-filled, feel-good pink fest.”

Rita Simons who graced our screens as Roxy Mitchell in Eastenders for 10 years will play the role of Paulette Bonafonte.

Bill Ward - who starred in ITV’s Coronation Street as Charlie Stubbs and in Emmerdale as James Barton - will play Professor Callahan.

Finally, Lucie Jones - a 2009 finalist in the X-Factor and an acclaimed stage and TV actress with roles in Midsomer Murders and ‘Rent’ - has the honour of playing the main role of Elle Woods.

The show enjoyed its INEC debut last night, Tuesday July and judging by the rumours, the opening night has been declared as a rousing success.

Since its inception, the show has earned seven Tony nominations and 10 Drama Desk Award nominations during its Broadway run and in the UK, it has been nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards, winning three, including Best New Musical, and has been nominated for eight Whatsonstage Awards winning 4 including Best Musical.

For those of you out there that are not familiar with the story, let me fill you in on some of the details:

“College sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods, doesn’t take no for an answer. When her boyfriend dumps her for someone more serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style,” reads a release on the play.

Anyone looking to buy tickets to the shows can do so by heading over to the INEC website; tickets are set to cost from €27.90 upwards.

Doors are set to open on the night at 7pm with shows set to start at 8pm.
