Spoils were shared between the two Mid Kerry sides in the County League Division Three tie on Saturday evening. The visitors were without Barth Murphy and the injured Gavin Evans, while Jack O’Connor, Dáire Cleary, Daragh O’Connor and Seán Arthurs joined the long list of absentees for Rangers that included county players Peter Crowley and Fiachra Clifford. In a low scoring first half, Keel led by 0-3 to nil after 15 minutes with points from Gary Sayers (free), Tommy Buckley and Aaron Murphy (free). Laune Rangers registered the next two points through James Lynch and David Costelloe, but both could have been goals – Lynch punching the ball at close range and Costelloe side-footing from 10 yards only for the ball to clear the crossbar on both occasions. Luke Flynn and Aaron Murphy added points for Keel but Rangers replied with points from Colm O’Shea and James Lynch to leave the minimum between the sides at the break. Half Time Score: Laune Rangers 0-4, Keel 0-5. Keel began the second half as they did the first, and scored four unanswered points through Martin Burke, Colm O’Neill, Luke Flynn and Aaron Murphy (free) to take a five point lead into the final quarter. Kieran Doona pointed twice (one free) to leave three between the sides before Doona put an excellent pass into David Costelloe – himself playing his first game since April – and the forward smashed the ball to the net to level the game with 10 minutes to play as Keel full-back James Foley received his second yellow card and was dismissed in the lead up. Dylan Prendergast nudged Keel ahead with a point, only for Cian O’Shea to level matters shortly after. Gary Sayers and Shane Daly (free) traded points to maintain the stalemate with regulation time expiring. Both sides would have expected some additional time to be added to the end of the game, but with less than a minute played and with Rangers on the attack, the final whistle was blown to see the game finish level. Full Time Score: Laune Rangers 1-8, Keel 0-11. For Rangers, Johnny Carey settled into a new position at centre back with ease, while Darran O’Riordan made his first senior appearance since 2014 but looked comfortable at the back. At the other end of the age-spectrum, Conor Murphy was introduced in the second half for his senior debut. Laune Rangers: Jason Browne, Darragh O’Shea, Cormac Johnston, Pierce Tyther, Chris Riordan (capt), Jonathan Carey, Darren O’Riordan, Michael O’Sullivan, Shane Daly (0-1), Patrick Daly, Kieran Doona (0-2), James Lynch (0-2), Colm O’Shea (0-1), Pádraig Murphy, David Costelloe (1-1). Gearoid Hassett collected a great pass from James Hurley to get the opening goal in the first minute, with a second goal through Eoin Clifford following soon after, while Hassett and Dáire Cleary (free) added points before Darragh Mackessy and Tadhg McEvoy got Feale Rangers on the board with points. Laune Rangers continued to put the pressure on, with Dáire Cleary and Gabe Griffin pointing before Griffin scored the team’s third goal. With 15 minutes played, Laune Rangers led by 3-4 to 0-2. Feale Rangers doubled their tally in the second quarter but the vistors continued to turn the screw. Points by Ronan O’Shea, Eoin Clifford and Dáire Cleary (free) added to goals by Roan Moriarty, Eoin Clifford, Ronan O’Shea and Gearóid Hassett before the break. Half Time Score: Feale Rangers 0-4, Laune Rangers 7-7. Laune Rangers introduced all four available substitutes for the beginning of the second half, and they continued to add to their lead. Roan Moriarty added a fine point, before substitute Matt Leslie scored a goal and point in the space of a minute. Laune Rangers and Rathmore played out a highly entertaining county under-16 League Division 1 fixture on Wednesday evening, and the East Kerry side came away from JP O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin with three point win. Laune Rangers had to do without Callum Russell, Marc Clifford, Niall Fenton, Shogie O’Sullivan and Jack Foley on the evening, while Gearoid Hassett, Seán Cleary, Rory O’Connor and Matt Leslie had lined out the previous evening in the County Minor Championship. The sides were level at 1-1 a piece after five minutes, as Rathmore pointed the opening score of the game through James Darmody before Cian Naylor hit the net for a Rangers goal while Lee Phelan struck the net at the opposite end and Gearoid Hassett pointed an excellent 45 for the hosts. Cathal Ryan and Gearoid Hassett exchanged points before Rathmore went on an excellent run, scoring five unanswered points through James Darmody, Aaron Cronin (2), Cathal Ryan and Kieran Fitzgerald to lead by 1-7 to 1-2 after 15 minutes. Rathmore’s Cathal Ryan cancelled out points from both Gearoid Hassett and Matt Leslie, before the visitors scored their second goal through James Darmody. Laune Rangers played well in the final minutes of the first half, scoring three points without reply before the break through James Treacy, Gearoid Hassett (free) and Cian Naylor – the latter a great goal chance that flashed over the crossbar. Half Time Score: Laune Rangers 1-7, Rathmore 2-9. Laune Rangers picked up where they left off before the interval, and were level inside three minutes of the restart – Gearoid Hassett causing havoc in the Rathmore half of the field, scoring two well taken points, before scoring an outstanding solo goal. Cathal Crowley and Matt Leslie (free) added points before Rangers had another goal chance, but Hassett’s shot after another great run was saved at a narrow angle by Rathmore ‘keeper William Casey. James Darmody pointed a free for Rathmore before Rangers were presented with another goal chance as they were awarded a penalty for a leg-block offence. However, Matt Leslie’s shot was saved by Rathmore’s Casey to see Rangers lead by the minimum at 2-11 to 2-10 with 15 minutes to play. Matt Leslie pointed a free for Rangers but the penalty save seemed to swing momentum back in Rathmore’s favour. Alan Dineen and Aaron Cronin pointed for the visitors to level matters with five minutes to play, and James Darmody (free) and Cathal Ryan added another two to put Rathmore in control. Darragh Mangan scored an excellent point for the hosts to leave the minimum between the sides, but Rathmore counter-attacked while Rangers were in search of the leveller, and Aaron Cronin scored a great goal to win the game for the East Kerry side. Matt Leslie pointed a long range free with the last kick of the game for Rangers and final whistle was blown to give a deserved win to Rathmore. Full Time Score: Laune Rangers 2-14, Rathmore 3-14. Rathmore’s attacking trio of Aaron Cronin, James Darmody and Cathal Ryan stood out for their side, accounting for two to 12 of their total tally. For Rangers, Darragh Mangan, Seán Cleary and Rory O’Connor played well in the middle eight for Rangers, but Gearoid Hassett was excellent on the night finishing with a tally of 1-6 (adding to 2-1 he scored the previous night in the Minor Championship. Laune Rangers: Jake Reenstierna, Patrick Brennan, Matt Reenstierna, Daniel Evans, Darragh Mangan (0-1), Seán Cleary, Cathal Crowley (01), Calum Moriarty, Rory O’Connor, Mikey O’Donnell, Matthew Leslie (0-4, 3f), James Treacy (0-1), Jack Healy, Cian Naylor (1-1), Gearóid Hassett (1-6, 2f).
