1. 90 YEAR ANNIVERSAR­Y OF JOHN B’S BIRTH

A PACKED programme of events will take place from Thursday July 19 to Saturday July 21 to help celebrate the 90 year anniversar­y of the birth of John B Keane.

Events kick off on Thursday July 19 with an evening of Pub Theatre at John B Keane’s from 9:30pm hosted by the inimitable Billy Keane.

2. GREAT FUN IN STORE AT SNEEM SUMMER FEST

THERE is lots to keep people entertaine­d at this years Sneem Summer Festival which takes place from Wednesday July 18 to Sunday July 22.

Events taking place over the weekend include 5km run, line dancing workshop, golf scramble and the Richard Walsh Memorial Blitz.

3. TARBERT PREPS FOR SUMMER FEST FUN

THE Tarbert Summer Festival takes place this weekend on both Saturday July 21 and Sunday July 22.

It all kicks off at 11am on the Saturday morning with a childrens art workshop in the woods at 11am; there is a visit to the Tarbert Lighthouse taking place from 11am to 4pm on the same day with the Fancy Dress Parade set to take place Saturday evening at 7pm.

Sunday sees a family fun day taking place from 2pm to 6pm, along with much more such as a helicopter and boat demonstrat­ion.

4. ANNUAL SET FOR SINGING CELEBRATIO­N

ANNASCAUL village will play host to a great weekend of singing workshops, music sessions, gigs, childrens entertainm­ent and lots more.

The annual Annascaul Celebratin­g Singing gathering will run from Friday July 27 to Sunday July 29.

5. KILGOBNET PREPS FOR 4 MILE RUN/WALK

RETURNING to Kilgobnet for an astounding 29th year this year will be the annual four mile memorial run/walk in memory of Fr Michael Kelliher.

This years run will take place on Friday July 20 at 8pm; start venue to be confirmed soon.

6. SHERLOCK HOLMES ARRIVES IN LISTOWEL

THE most famous detective in the world has found his next case and luckily for the people of Kerry, it will bring him all the way down to St John’s Theatre in Listowel.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ will be performed by the Performanc­e Theatre Exchange from London on July 20; tickets are available to book now by calling St Johns on 068 22566.

7. FUN AT THE KING SCALLOP FEST IN VALENTIA

THE Valentia Island King Scallop Festival takes place this weekend from 12pm on Saturday July 21 to Sunday July 22 at midnight.

This great family fun weekend will boast lots of tasty scallop for people to enjoy, live music and kids entertainm­ent over the weekend.

There will also be a Valentia Lifeboat Station Open Day on Sunday July 22 from 12pm to 4pm where visitors will be able to meet the crew, tour the lifeboats, home baking and much more.

8. KILLARNEY TO HOST10K AND HALF MARATHON

IT’S that time of year again as runners prepare to take part in the Gleneagle Run Killarney 10km and Half-Marathon run.

This years event takes place on Saturday July 28; the half-marathon will start at Molls Gap while the 10km run will commence at the Gleneagle Hotel.

9. BORN TO RUN HOLDING ITS 40 MILE LOOPED RACE

FOR those hardy runners out there, there is still time for you to register your place in one of the best locally organised race here in Kerry.

The 40-mile ultra marathon and relay will take place on Saturday July 28 at 7am. Runners have the option of completing the four mile looped course ten times all by themselves or they can choose to enter as part of a two person or a four person relay team; To register for the event head over to www. borntorune­vents.ie.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are five parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel, Inch Beach and the Tralee junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old.
