KERRY HOPE FOR MORLEY BOOST AHEAD OF SUPER SATURDAY IN FITZGERALD STADIUM

Nothing decided until everything is decided

ALTHOUGH matters have be taken out of their hands because of events in Salthill, County Committee chairman Tim Murphy is confident ahead of Kerry’s final Super 8 game against Kildare and hopeful that results will go the right was on Saturday for Kerry to progress to the All-Ireland football semi-finals.

“At the moment the players and management are very focussed on Kildare and what they can control. Obviously what happens in Salthill might make it irrelevant, but I’m very confident that we will acquit ourselves well, especially with the effort that has been put in by both themselves and the management all year, and even more so since the Monaghan game,” he said at the launch and draw for the County SFC in the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre on Monday.

Murphy is also confident of a big Kerry support getting behind the team in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday evening.

“The support we got up in Clones was great in a very intense venue and it is something we were very appreciative of. I think the fact the game is on Sky (6pm throw-in) will mean that there is a bigger attendance in Killarney as well.”

The Chairman said that the focus is on Saturday solely at the moment with no major thoughts on anything else until after then, but he did say they were hopeful of giving a definitive starting date for the County Senior Football Championship next week once it’s known on Saturday night if Kerry have a further part to play in this year’s All-Ireland Series.

“The one thing a club player wants anywhere in the country is a fixture structure and I think the year in general has been a learning curve for everyone at local and national level particularly when it came to venues, etcetera. I’m delighted we were able to give certainty to our club players in April and early May with the running of the Club Championships and at national level there will be a meeting after the All-Ireland where all counties can express their views, and I think a lot of the issues that came up this year will be ironed out for 2019.”
