Another classic at the Ballymac Vintage car run

ENTHUSIASTS DEFY THE TORRENTIAL RAIN TO HOLD GREAT EVENING

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

THE heavens may have opened on the night, but organisers of the Ballymac Vintage Car and Honda 50 run declared the event “a real and a great success” nonetheless.

Celebrating its ninth year, over 80 cars of every shape, size and colour showed up to take part in the event, which was, as usual, raising funds for the Down Syndrome Kerry (DSK) charity.

Starting at Ó Riada’s bar, the cars travelled down to the Ballygarry roundabout, where they turned right and headed out to Kielduff. From here, they went on to Renagown Cross, into Castleisland and back to Ó Riada’s, where they were treated to some well-earned refreshments at the bar.

One of the organisers of the event, George Glover, spoke to The Kerryman after the event, and he was delighted to reveal how much had been raised for the night’s chosen charity.

“I’ll admit that Down Syndrome Kerry is a group that is very close to my heart. It’s been our charity for years now, and we’re delighted to keep going with them,” he said, speaking on Monday.

“We managed to raise close to €1,600 alone on the night, and we have the proceeds from two other events over the summer – including a dinner dance and a West Kerry run as well over the last few weeks that we pooled together as well.

“Overall, we presented DSK with just under €2,300 which they were delighted with.”

Finally, George wished to take the chance to thank all of the sponsors, the volunteers, stewards and, indeed, everyone who had helped out with the event. George also assured everyone that the run would return again next year.
