Arabic tourism writers admire Kerry

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

FRESH from having its golf courses shown off to some of the top sports writers in the US, Kerry last week welcomed three leading Arabic travel writers to the county.

The journalists represent two lifestyle magazines and a daily newspaper with a combined audience of more than 728,000 readers, a huge number of potential Arabic holidaymakers for Kerry and Ireland.

Over the course of their few days here, the writers stayed in the Great Southern Hotel in Killarney and took in some of the best sights that The Kingdom has to offer, such as Killarney National Park and the Gap of Dunloe.

Ireland was a hugely popular tourist destination for thousands of people from the Middle East in 2017, with over 71,000 visitors from the region travelling here last year.

Tourism Ireland said it was delighted to invite these travel writers to visit Kerry and the south west.

“They’ve been really impressed by the places they visited and in particular by our wonderful scenery and the friendliness of the people they met,” said Aisling McDermott, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Asia and Middle East.

“Fact-finding visits like this are an important element of our overall promotional programme, helping us to spread the good news about holidays in Kerry and Ireland through the media in the Middle East.”
