Next Week Jackpot - €6,500 SENIORS Results: - County League Division 1: Our Seniors were at home to Legion on Saturday 28th July 2018, Draw game Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-09, Legion 1-09. emailed by rossbeighview@gmail.com emailed to chairperson.glenbeighglencar.kerry@gaa.ie Glenbeigh/Glencar took on Killarney Legion in Glenbeigh on Saturday evening in what was a must win game in their fight for division one survival. As is the norm this campaign Glenbeigh/Glencar had key players unavailable through injury with talisman Gavan O Grady and fullback Jeremiah Hoare both out, Jack Brosnan could only make the bench as he struggles for full fitness after a recent broken toe, however it was great to see Pa Kilkenny back in the starting 15 after a couple of months out with a elbow injury. The Legion team bore a strong Glenbeigh connection with Padraig Lucey son of Chritina Sheahan the high road, Danny Sheahan son of John at centre back and Denis son of Jimmy starting wing forward, Jimmy was traumatized from the last time the teams met in Glenbeigh as Legion were relegated and his nervous disposition meant he had to watch this encounter from the road peering in over the wall. The opening exchanges were even enough with the score after the first 10 minutes standing at 0-02 a piece, Legions two points coming from Jamie O Sullivan and Glenbeigh/Glencars from Feargal Griffin and Daniel Griffin. Glenbeigh/ Glencar were guilty of missing good scoring opportunities for the remainder of the half as Legion went on to open a 0-02 to 1-06 lead by the halftime whistle with points Jamie O Sullivan (2), Padraig Lucey and Peter McCarthy. The goal was scored by Finbar Murphy who gave Rory O Connor no chance as he fired into the Glenbeigh/Glencar net.Glenbeigh/ Glencar upped the tempo in the second half and fought their way back into the match with four unanswered points from Pa Kilkenny, Adrian O Connor, and Tommy Cahill (2) as they tried their best to secure the two points on offer. Glenbeigh/Glencar had chances to reduce the deficit even further before Legion hit back with three points to open a 0-06 to 1-09 lead. The hometeam needed a goal to try and rescue the game but two Tommy Cahill attempts for goal drifted over the bar. Substitute Bernard Murphy got the last point of the game but Killarney Legion ran out winners by 0-09 to 1-09. Glenbeigh/Glenback were left to rue the chances spurned in the opening half and if had shown a little more composure in the second would of grabbed a goal or two that would of made the difference. It has been a hard year for the management and team having so many injuries to key players for long spells of the season. However there have been bright moments throughout the campaign, a great draw with Dr. Crokes and an excellent away win down in Templenoe that show that this team can preform at the highest level, even with key injuries in such a small squad they still managed to stay within a few points of Rathmore, An Ghaeltacht and Spa and we have seen the emergence of some fine young talents in Oisin/Adrian O Connor and Dara Casey. JUNIORS Fixtures: - County League Final: Our Juniors play Annascaul in County League on Friday 3rd August 2018 (Venue TBC).

U-14 BOYS: On Monday evening Fossa under 14s were away to the Division 1 County champions in Barraduff. It was a glorious evening for football with a stiff breeze blowing across the field. The prize was a home venue for the final, Glenflesk went in 3-03 to 1-03 ahead at half time. A few changes at half time saw Fossa play much better in the second half and finishing well. The final score Fossa 3-11, Glenflesk 3-09. Best on the day were Daragh O’Brien, Darren Ryan, Cian Doyle and Ryan O’Leary. Scorers Harry Kelly 1-02, Ted O’Gorman 1-0, Sam Buckley 1-0, Patrick Lyons 0-3,Ryan O’Leary 0-2, Darren Ryan 0-2, Rocco Sheehan, Cian Doyle and Rian Colleran, a point each. The final will take place in Fossa on Monday 30-07-2018 at 7.00 against Glenflesk. All support will be appreciated. CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to Rian Colleran who captained the Kerry U-14s that won the Munster title on Saturday last, (5 years after a certain David Clifford did the same), also Cian Doyle was heavily involved in the squad. Well done also to Pauric Talbot and Keelan O’Brien who were involved with the Kerry U-15s who qualified for the All Ireland finals blitz after wins against Wexford and Meath, our own Adrain Sheehan is involved with coaching the U-15 squad. It is brilliant to see our younger players and coaches making their mark with these squads. LADIES FOOTBALL: Unfortunately the Kerry U-16 girls lost to Galway in the All-Ireland final last Wednesday evening after a titanic battle that went to extra time, Maud Kelly was outstanding for Kerry, playing with all the passion and panach that we have come to expect of this talented young girl. I have no doubt there will be better days ahead and Maud will certainly get the reward that her talent deserves.
