CEMETERY MASS

The annual Cemetery Mass took place at Kilgarvan burial grounds on Friday 20th July 2018 at 7:30pm. In contrast to the past couple of years the evening was dry and warm. It was attended by a very large crowd. Father Con Buckley and Father Frank Tobin, who is home on holiday from the Philippian­s concelebra­ted Mass. Blessing of the graves took place afterwards.

ROCKMOUNT

On Saturday 21st July 2018, at Rockmount Care Centre, Michael Murphy Chairman of Rockmount was presented with a cheque of € 3,641.88 by Liam O’Shea of Vikingdom. The money was raised when Vikingdom held a raft race at Kenmare Pier on Saturday 23rd of June 2018. Vikingdom Raft Race Kenmare were delighted to present the cheque to the Rockmount Care Centre in Kilgarvan. Vikingdom chose Rockmount as a worthy local cause to donate the proceeds of this year’s event. The dedicated team at Rockmount provide specialist care for people suffering from Alzheimer’s and Dementia. It’s such an important local facility that provides a much needed service to all of South Kerry. The team at Rockmount also do stellar work with our senior citizens from the Kilgarvan and Kenmare area. Vikingdom wish to thank everyone who got involved in this year’s raft race. The day was a huge success and it couldn’t have been done without the volunteers, participan­ts, sponsors, and all from the community who came out on the day to support it. U21B

Well done to the U21B hurlers and Gearoid Fennessy, Kilgarvan for winning the All Ireland B hurling U21 semi final against Sligo, on Sunday 22nd July 2018 in Ballinaslo­e. They will play Derry in the final.

DEATH

James Healy of Cork and Mangerton, Kilgarvan, passed away on Sunday July 22nd 2018. Requiem Mass for James was held on Tuesday 24h July in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Ballinloug­h, Cork at 12:00pm. The funeral cortege arrived in Kilgarvan just before 3:00pm for burial in the local cemetery. To his wife Anne, daughter Clare, sons Pat, Dan and Jim and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.

WEDDING

Congratula­tions to Donal Breen, son of Mary and Dan Breen, Gortlahard, Kilgarvan and Melissa Finn, from Dromina Co Cork, daughter of Eammon and the late Noreen Finn, who were Married in St. Finbarr’s Church, Gougane Barra, Co Cork at 2:00pm on Thursday 26th July 2018. Bridesmaid was Sandra Quilty sister of the bride and grooms man was Gerard Breen brother of the Groom. Flower girl was Saoirse Quilty and page boy was Mark Fitzgerald. The reception was held in the Sneem Hotel, Sneem, Co. Kerry. The couple will reside in Gortlahard, Kilgarvan.

COLLECTION

The annual Kilgarvan GAA Club collection takes place on the weekend of Saturday 4th August 2018 and Sunday 5th August 2018. Your support would be greatly appreciate­d.

SPONSOR OUR SOD

Kilgarvan GAA has plans to further develop their facilities in Kilgarvan. These include installati­on of Floodlight­s, Running Track Lighting, Refurbishm­ent of the Running Track, Fencing, Installati­on of Dug Outs, Refurbishm­ent of the existing dressing rooms. It is encouragin­g to see increased membership each year and new members are always welcome. The installati­on of lights will ensure that training can continue for all ages over the winter months. In addition, our track will be available year round, at present the Kenmare District Athletics club and Kilgarvan Ag Rith use our track in daylight hours only. We plan to continue our “Couch to 5K” program for both walkers and runners during the winter months. Also, in partnershi­p with RTÉ’s Operation Transforma­tion, our club will bring together our community to enjoy healthy walks in the safe, bright, environs of our GAA grounds. Detailed costing indicate that the baseline finance required for the developmen­t will be in the region of €140,000. We have been lucky to secure Sports Capital Grants of €66,000 and have already raised an additional €10,000. In order to complete the work, we require additional financial support for the remaining balance of €64,000. Kilgarvan GAA would like to invite all current and past club members, supporters, friends and anyone connected to Kilgarvan at home or away, to support our fundraisin­g campaign, Sponsor Our Sod.
