KILGOBNET 4 MILER

Well done to all the runners and walkers who took part in the 29th annual Fr Michael Kelliher 4 mile road race in Kilgobnet on Friday 20th July. Mike Carmody of An Bru AC had a great run and finished in 20.04. He was just 4 seconds outside of the course record which was set in 2011 by Mick Traynor of Raheny Shamrocks. Pat Byrne of Carlow was second while Dermot Dinneen of FFMV AC rounded off the podium positions. Our own Niamh Clifford retained her title in the ladies race where she was followed home by Siobhan Daly of Gneeveguil­la AC and Catherine Kiely of An Riocht. All profits from this event are being donated to Tir na nOg orphanage in Tanzania, which is a charity set up by Louise Quill who teaches locally in Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin. Thanks to Browns Agri Castleisla­nd for their sponsorshi­p and to everyone who gave donations on the night. Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped out, without whom the race would not be possible. Special mention also to Michael Mangan for all the work that he does to make this race a success.

MUNSTER ATHLETICS

Congratula­tions to Erin Murphy and Holly O Sullivan who put in some great performanc­es at the Munster B’s in CIT Cork last Saturday. Holly took silver in the U12 80M while Erin won bronze in the U13 80M

GNEEVEGUIL­LA AC MILE SERIES

The fourth race in this series took place in Ballydesmo­nd last Wednesday evening with a total of 73 runners taking part. Colm McCarthy pf West Limerick AC took the honours this week with a winning time of 4.43 while Siobhan Daly of Gneeveguil­la AC won the ladies race finishing in 5.21. Well done to Gillian Murphy who finished in third place. The final race takes place next Wednesday in Gneeveguil­la at 8pm.

KILLARNEY HALF MARATHON

Well done to Sean Murphy, Susanne Foley, Stephen Griffin, Siobhan Falvey, Margaret Foley, Norma McHugh & Linda Galvin who took part in the Killarney Half Marathon last Saturday. The race was won by Mike Carmody of An Bru AC with a finishing time of 1.08.01 while Sinead Tangney won the ladies race in 1.23.01
