FENIT FITNESS FEST TRIUMPH
400 ATHLETES SWIM, CYCLE AND RUN IN EPIC ANNUAL EVENT
ATHLETES could not have asked for more perfect racing conditions than on Saturday in Fenit, where 400 athletes took on this year’s Tri-Kingdom-Come Triathlon. The 750m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run has fast gained recognition among local and national triathletes as a key event, and it lived up to its ever-growing reputation again this year.
The event was won by Sabien Kulczynski who completed the course in 1.03.19, an impressive time for the 16-year old who only recently started his racing career. The first female was Lisa Horgan from Limerick Triathlon club in the time of 1.13.32, while the winner of the relay event was a team from Tralee Triathlon club. who completed the course in 1.08.23.
A very important part of the day is the Try-a-Tri triathlon, which is a ‘taster’ course for those wanting to try out their first triathlon. This involves a 250m swim, an 8k bike and a 2.5k run; 34 athletes braved this course and completed their first ever triathlon.
Race director for Tri Kingdom Come, John Quilter, said that this is best part of the day, with new triathletes conquering their fears.
“The Try-a-Tri is very important to us, and we always want new triathletes to sign up and try out the sport,” he said.
This event was won by Oran O’Donoghue in 42.46, and the first female home was Megan Peters in 48.22. Meanwhile the wonderful volunteers and spectators also added to the success of ‘Tri -Kingdom-Come’ on Saturday, and after all the medals were handed out it was time for a BBQ and celebrations at Tralee Bay Sailing club. It ended another successful event for Tralee Triatlon club and for the clubs and organistaions in the local community that benefit.
