Kerry triathletes head to European Championships
KERRY’S top triathletes will be flying the flag for Ireland this weekend in Glasgow at the 2018 ETU Triathlon European Championships.
This event will see athletes compete for European titles at Strathclyde County Park when they take on a sprint distance triathlon of a 750m swim, a 20k bike and a 5k run.
Among those lining out for their country and county are four local triathletes, three of them members of Tralee Triathlon club.
The athletes have been busy preparing for the chance at European glory and have had a busy triathlon season gearing up for their participation on the European field. Among the Kerry competitors are Tralee triathletes Paudie Murphy and Caroline Murphy. Paudie, who is a member of Tralee Triathlon Club, has previously competed at World and European level and is fresh from a win at Loughrea Triathlon last Sunday.
Casteisland’s Majella Diskin and Suzanne O’Sullivan, from Currans and both members of Tralee Triathlon club, are also lining out for Ireland. Both have also previously competed at an international level.
All four athletes are representing Ireland in their respective age categories.
Chairman of Tralee Triathlon Club Francis Foley said this week that it is wonderful to see Kerry athletes reaching their potential.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our athletes, and we are thrilled for them to be representing their country, their club and their county.
“We want to wish them all the best at the championships. We know they will do themselves proud.”
All four athletes will race this Saturday, August 11.
