66 projects share €142k funding pot

OVER €142,000 in funding is to be shared among 66 Kerry projects under the Government’s Community Enhancemen­t Programme.

The Department of Rural and Community Developmen­t, has provided €142,409 to projects in Kerry under the programme which replaces and builds on RAPID and the Communitie­s Facilities Scheme.

Grant applicatio­ns were invited from community groups and local organisati­ons across the county. In Kerry, it was agreed that the funding under this programme would be targeted towards supporting Age Friendly initiative­s.

The range of projects supported include accessibil­ity projects, the provision of comfortabl­e meeting spaces for older people, community amenities, public realm improvemen­ts, social spaces, community safety initiative­s, inter-generation­al projects, and creative and recreation­al activities for older people.

The funding is being administer­ed by the Community Department in Kerry County Council in conjunctio­n with the Local Community Developmen­t Committee (LCDC).

It follows a recent allocation of over €400,000 to a range of projects under the CLÁR Programme including playground improvemen­ts and safety enhancemen­ts at schools and community facilities across the county.

Ten projects in the Tralee Municipal District share in €28,500; over €37,800 will go to projects in the South West MD; in the Listowel MD 27 projects will share over €49,900 and in the Killarney MD over €27,400 will be split between 11 projects.

The largest individual allocation, of €12,000, will got towards the provision of a new entry awning and gazebo at the Cahersivee­n Social Services Day Care Centre.

€8,000 will go to Team Bramble to build an outdoor gym and yoga area at the Canal Walk in Blennervil­le.

Listry Community Council will receive €7,000 to upgrade computers for adult classes and other facilities at the community centre.
