County hurling championsh­ip resumes after All-Ireland U21 title is retained

PRIDE of place this week goes to the Kerry Under 21 hurlers who retained their All-Ireland ‘B’ championsh­ip at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny on Saturday last by defeating Derry in the final by 2-20 to 0-11. This was Kerry’s 9th title at this grade and in doing so, Kerry won the Ritchie McElligott Cup (presented in 2015) for the second time.

Well done to all involved, including the team manager, Ian Brick (Kilmoyley), coach Fintan O’Connor and selectors DJ Leahy (Causeway) and John Lucid (Ballyheigu­e).

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSH­IP

Both semi-finals of the Garvey’s SuperValu Co. Senior Hurling Championsh­ip (Corn Neilus Ó Floinn) go ahead on this Sunday, 12 August at Austin Stack Park – Lixnaw play Causeway while current title holders Ballyduff meet Kilmoyley. Full details on www.kerrygaa.ie

COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Causeway qualified for the Final of the Credit Union County Senior Hurling League Division 2 with a 7-21 to 2-9 home win over Dr. Crokes on Friday evening last.

The second semi-final, between Kenmare v St. Brendan’s will go ahead on this Friday, 8 August at Kenmare, 7.30pm (extra time if necessary).

COUNTY MINOR HURLING LEAGUE

In the 2018 County Minor Hurling Championsh­ip last Sunday, Abbeydorne­y has a 3-17 to 2-11 win over Ballyduff.

HURLING CÚL CAMPS

The final week of the 2018 Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps for Hurling in Kerry will take place next week at Kilmoyley & Tralee Parnell’s (Caherslee) from Monday, 13th until Friday, 17th August. As usual, children may register on the first morning of each Camp. The remaining camps will be (13-17 August). The cost is €60 per child with reductions for additional members of families. Open to primary school children, boys and girls between 6 and 13 years of age. Monday’s to Friday’s, 10am – 2.30pm daily. Further details at www.kelloggscu­lcamps.gaa.ie

The St. Pat’s East Kerry Hurling club will be hosting a Poc Fada competitio­n on this Saturday, 11 August. Venue will be Killarney Racecourse where proceeding­s get underway at 10am with competitio­ns at Under 12, Under 16 and senior level. Details on the club Facebook page.

NORTH KERRY UPDATE

Ballyduff won the North Kerry Under 14 A championsh­ip title (Michael Hennessy Memorial Shield) last Sunday at Dromakee where they had an 8-16 to 1-2 win over Ballyheigu­e. Team captain was Conor Murphy while Kevin O’Carroll won the Player of the Match Award. Match referee was Tommy Guerin.
