East Kerry All Stars launched for 2018

The 2018 East Kerry All Star Awards, jointly sponsored by The Kerryman, Aquila Club Gleneagle Hotel and East Kerry GAA, were launched last Thursday. Selection for these awards is based on performances in the Dr O’Donghue Cup and Fr Galvin Cup Championship games. There was a great turnout from clubs and a special welcome for sponsors, John Feerick, Managing Director, Kerryman, Paul Brennan, Sports Editor, Kerryman and Eamon Quigley, Aquila Club Gleneagle Hotel and for special guests, Fr Paddy O’Donoghue, Finola Spillane and grandson Cian, members of family of Dr Paddy O’Donoghue, in whose honour the Cup is presented annually.

EAST REGION MINOR LEAGUE Fossa 6-17 Firies 5-13

Fossa hosted Firies in a highly entertaining game, played in great spirit, at a blistering pace, with fantastic scores. Both teams had two points after 5 minutes, before Fossa’s Ruari Doyle scored a goal. Darragh O’Donoghue replied with a Firies goal. The sides traded a number of points before Fossa went on a goal blitz, Cian O’Shea, Mark Donnellan and Darren Cronin on target in the halves last 10 minutes. Half Time: Fossa 4-8 Firies 1-8.

On resumption, Firies cut the deficit within 6 minutes, with 2 goals - Kevin Murphy and Darragh O’Donoghue. Fossa steadied the ship with a Cian O’Shea goal, blasted to the net in the 43rd minute. Harry Doody goaled for Firies in the 48th minute. Killian Buckley replied in kind in the 51st minute. The scores continued with some brilliant points. Aaron Flynn converted a Firies penalty late in the game. Fossa ran out winners.
