The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Thank you Éamonn Fitzmaurice for your service to Kerry GAA
AFTER Saturday’s game in Fitzgerald Stadium, Éamonn Fitzmaurice met with County Board Chairman Tim Murphy to inform him of his decision to step down as Kerry manager. Éamonn had given his decision a lot of thought and after speaking with his wife Tina and his family, he felt he was making the correct decision for Kerry football.
The Kerry County Committee wish to thank Éamonn for his tireless commitment to Kerry GAA. As the manager, he brought six Munster titles, a National League and the All-Ireland title to the county. He took the job when Kerry were entering a period of transition and he has successfully integrated a number of young players into the Senior set up.
We sincerely thank Éamonn for his dedication to Kerry GAA. His planning and preparation for games was meticulous. Undoubtedly he has laid a very solid foundation for future Managers to build upon. Éamonn has given his time to Kerry GAA and has given us many happy and joyous days both as a Player and a Manager. It is time for him now to give his time to his young family and to focus on his new career path.
We wish Éamonn and his family every happiness for the future. Go raibh míle maith agat a Éamonn!
The process of selecting a new Manager now begins. The Chairman has called an Executive meeting for tonight (Wednesday) and the following Tuesday at the County Committee meeting, the Chairman will propose a committee for ratification. This committee will be tasked with proposing a suitable candidate for the position before the end October.
RACE for Sam ends for Kerry!
LAST Saturday the Kerry team did their bit by securing an impressive win over Kildare but unfortunately the result in Salthill ended our Championship hopes for this year. We will go into the history books as the first team to exit a Championship after a win!
There was a surreal feeling in the Stadium after the final whistle as usually there is at least one team celebrating going back down the tunnel, instead on this occasion, there were two very disappointed teams. A long winter of reflection and analysis lies ahead but it is important to remember that every single person involved gave everything they could to Kerry football and for that they must be thanked. These people put their lives on hold in pursuit of Sam Maguire.
While constructive feedback is always welcome, there is, however, no place for personal insults and abuse in our game and in our county.
We are all very disappointed with our early exit but the plan is to come back stronger next year. The younger players have gained great championship experience. New leaders have emerged. The future is bright but we as Kerry Supporters must encourage and support this team during their development. Our patience will be rewarded!
