Tralee Racecourse to host Autocross event

- Sean Moriarty

HORSEPOWER of a different kind will take over Tralee Racecourse this weekend when Killarney and District Motor Club runs its Jimmy Devane Memorial Autocross at the venue on Sunday.

It is the second time that KDMC has used the track following its successful running of the same meeting last Christmas.

The autocross, named for one of the Killarney club’s most dedicated members, is usually a summer event but bad weather last year forced its postponement until December.

There should be no such issues this time around for the Rentokil Initial sponsored event which is ran in association with the Kerry Motor Club, the usual guardian of the venue for motorsport purposes. The event will also raise money for the Costello Family Fund.

A KDMC said: “The event is round seven of the 2018 Munster Autocross Championship and is sure to be a cracking event with four- timed runs and one practice run on a 2.2km fast, technical track with an excellent surface throughout. Junior and Novice classes are available and rally cars are welcome. New for this year will be a class for 750cc motorcycle engined buggies.”

For more information contact clerk of the course, Tommy Daly on 087 7989339 or event secretary Norma Lucey on 087 6040814.

Round five of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship, the Tipperary Stonethrowers Rally takes place on Sunday.

Kerry Motor Club is represented by Kevin Barrett and Sean Mullaly in their Subaru Impreza.
