HERITAGE IVERAGH
VOTE OF SYMPATHY
Firstly we’d like to advise that at our recent committee meeting we passed a vote of sympathy on the passing of our former member, Eamon Langford of Kells. Eamon was hugely influential in cultural matters in Iveragh, especially in the UCC survey of Iveragh and influential in the setting up of our group. He will be sadly missed by us all. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

ATLANTIC TELEGRAPH CABLES TRAIL
Tom Horgan & Mortimer Moriarty have been working tirelessly on this project for over a year. Following approval of funding, for which we thank the EU Rural Development (LEADER) Programme 2014-2020 and Kerry County Council, work is now beginning on the installation in Iveragh of an Atlantic Telegraph Cables Trail, which will include a brochure and information features/plaques to be erected at locations that are associated with the three Iveragh cable stations at Valentia, Ballinskelligs and Waterville, as well as in the Cahersiveen area, where the first attempt to lay a cable was made at the White Strand in 1857. This will encourage a movement of interested people off the Ring of Kerry to go around the trail area and should be of considerable benefit to the economy of Iveragh. It will complement the routes of the Wild Atlantic Way, the Skellig Region, Scenic Skellig Ring etc.
Additional funding will be essential to complete this project, and we are now seeking this funding. We would very much welcome contributions to the project. All contributions will be acknowledged. Contributions may be made to and further information obtained from Tom Horgan, thomasfhorgan@gmail.com or Mortimer Moriarty, mortimer@ campinginkerry.com
The Uíbh Ráthach 3D project with the Discovery Programme
The aim of the Uíbh Ráthach in 3D project is to digitise and record in 3d as many as possible of the surviving ogham stones and other monuments, including vulnerable monuments in the landscape. We need €2000 towards equipment (computer, software, camera) and training to take part in this programme to record the ogham stones in Iveragh. Can you help us either with equipment or financially please?
Renewal of Annual Subscriptions are now due, €20 for a family and €15 for a single person that can be paid at any of our upcoming events or direct to one of our Committee Members. We look forward to seeing you at some of our events.
