The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

100k Route ...

-

THE 100k starts at Byrne’s Spar, Caherslee. Runners head towards Ardfert, hitting 10k as they pass the turn for Banna Strand. They continue to Ballyheigue. At 16k they stay on the main road, instead of turning into the village, and head for Causeway. Causeway is the 24k-mark. In Causeway village they take a left turn up the hill past the shop and church as they head towards Kerryhead. At 35.5k, runners take a right turn, and they will stay on this road until they return to Ballyheigue. After that they pass through the village; they will take a right turn back towards Tralee and will immediately hit 50k. They continue on towards Tralee until they turn right at 56.25k and head to Banna strand. Turning right at 57.75k, runners will pass the memorial to Roger Casement; at 63.25k runners take a right turn. Here the 50k-route joins with the 100k-route, and they will stay on this road until they turn right at 65.5k as they head towards Tralee Golf Club and gruelling Barrow hill. They turn at Tralee Golf Club and come back down and head for Churchill. They turn right at the graveyard at 73k and head for Fenit. At 76k, runners turn right and head through the village, out along the pier to the St Brendan the navigator monument. Runners now head back towards Tralee on the main Tralee Fenit road. Passing the Oyster tavern (84.5k) runners will take a right turn into the Kerries at approx 85.5k and stay on this road until they are back in the Tralee outskirts, passing the tax office at 89.8k. Runners will take a right turn and head for Blennerville, staying on the main road running through the village. They turn right before the service station and pass St Pat’s GAA field, staying straight on this road around the two right-angled bends. After 95k, runners take their second left turn and head down Caherwiseen past the stud farm and exiting beside it. Taking a left turn into the small park, runners come onto the walkway. They stay on the walkway until they reach FBD house, where they take a right turn off of the walkway and an immediate left turn at the traffic lights. They pass the cinema and cross the road at the Aquadome roundabout, past the Brandon car park, before taking an immediate right turn onto Neil Armstrong way.
