FIRIES COMMUNITY GAMES
Well done to all the children who took part in the Community Games National Final in Limerick at the weekend. Patrick Kearney took part and was 7th in discus. Ryan Vickers took part in 80m U8 and did extremely well to win a silver National medal in a hugely competitive event. Congratulations Ryan well done. In the Judo competition there were 3 participants from Firies that qualified for the National final and they all won medals. Well done to the two Costello brothers Luke and Jack on winning gold medals and congratulations to Laura Flynn who won a silver medal. A huge thank you to all the children for taking part and representing your area and County. Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who gave up their time to train, coach & manage teams.
Community Games is a voluntary organisation and would not survive without all the volunteers and this is really appreciated at local level and again at county level. Being part of Community Games provides great opportunities for children to learn a sport and feel part of a team and make friends in various team and individual events. The 2018 National Final draws closure to a very successful year for Firies and it was wonderful to see such huge participation in so many events. Thank you to all the Committee who met up throughout the year and planned, advertised and co-ordinated events. It was all a team effort between committee, families and children and we look forward to starting a new season again in October.
