CALL FOR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLAN
Councillor Michael Cahill has called on Kerry County Council, as a matter of extreme urgency, to carry out a major traffic management plan for Killorglin town. Councillor Cahill said the Council needs to address the chronic traffic delays in the town, particularly on Iveragh Road and also needs to identify new car parking areas and a bus parking area for coaches and tour Buses, which are very important to the town’s economy.
The Rossbeigh Councillor said he is receiving complaints on almost a daily basis of traffic delays getting through Killorglin and that it is quite common to see traffic at a standstill out past Moriarty’s Furniture on the Glenbeigh road. Speaking at the recent meeting of the Council, the Flanna Fail Councillor said he was calling for the traffic management plan to be carried out as soon as possible, in view of the fact the Council had previously stated that the ultimate solution to Killorglin’s traffic problem is a bypass. Councillor Cahill said this will involve the construction of a new bridge, land acquisition, etc., will cost in the region of €60 to €70 million approximately and will take a number of years to bring to fruition.
