The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Showband days are back again

-

THE Duagh Sports and Leisure Complex management team members are delighted to announce they are holding their annual concert again this year on Thursday, August 30.

Emboldened by last year’s extremely successful night at the complex, they are ‘Bringing Back the Showbands – Again’

“The 2017 event was dedicated to the memory of the late Fr Pat Moore – a founding member of the complex and an inspirational driving force which ensured the success of the development,” said spokesperson, Nelius Collins.

“The hosting of such a social gathering in a small rural community like Duagh is now more important than ever to foster community spirit and give the local economy a welcome boost.

“Last year’s concert was such a resounding success we have decided to once again put our trust in the ultimate showman, the one and only Shaun O’Dowd.

“Indeed Shaun has, we believe, come up with a line-up that would be the envy of many a venue. Returning for their second appearance in Duagh will be the brilliant show-band The Conquerors with Keith and Lorraine.

“Added to this line up will be Paddy Cole – the fabulous musician and singer; RTÉ Radio One presenter, Ronan Collins; and the enchanting 1992 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Linda Martin.

“A contribution of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Kerry/Cork/Limerick Health Link Bus – as it did last year.

“This was Fr Moore’s favourite charity and one very close to his heart.”

All other proceeds will be ploughed back into the completion of the Duagh Sports and Leisure Complex to complete the first floor section of the development.

“The completion of this section of the building will provide much needed support and services for the community as a whole,” said Nelius.

“Last year’s allocation of tickets went out the door at an alarming rate. The concert sold out, and we knew we had a hit on our hands before a note was sounded on the night.

“We simply had to turn people away from the door last year, and there’s nothing worse than that for people who really want to see the show.

The moral of the story is: grab a ticket while they’re going. You can do so at any of the following:

Tickets for the night cost €25 and can be obtained by contacting: Geraldine on 087 268 4540; Liz on 087 743 1370; Nelius on 087 227 3755; or any of the committee members.

Tickets are also available in Abbeyfeale from Esther’s Boutique; Kathleen’s Food-Store; Ann Lyons’ Shop; or Steve in The Ploughman’s Bar.

They can be purchased in Duagh from Betty Gaire at the Post Office; Steve Watson’s Shop; O’Connor’s Bar; O’Brien’s Bar.

They are available in Kilmorna from Gould’s Shop; and in Brosna from Mike in The Sportsfield Bar.

In Lyreacrompane you can buy from The Four Elms/Roche’s Bar; in Listowel from Norma in Doran’s Pharmacy, and Kay’s Children’s Shop; in Lisselton from Behan’s Shop and Ryans Shop; and in Asdee from the Post Office.
