South Kerry to take on Shamrocks in historic first

-

SOUTH Kerry take on Kenmare Shamrocks this Saturday evening at 18:00 in Con Keating Park, Cahersiveen.

This is an historic meeting of two teams who have never met in the County Senior Championship in the lifetime of this scribe.

Kenmare Shamrocks will be backboned by the O’Shea brothers Seanie and Daragh, Stephen O’Brien and Paul O’Connor along with plenty more highly competent championship performers.

South Kerry are tried and trusted performers only narrowly losing out to Dr Crokes in last year’s final. Graham O Sullivan and Mark Griffin are two players in great form the latter unfortunate not to have started at number six against Kildare.

With loads of experience like Bryan Sheahan, Killian Young, Brendan O’Sullivan, Brian Sugrue along with the Kerry Junior contingent of the Daly brothers, (Daniel recovering from injury may not be ready), Niall and Conor O’Shea, Chris Farrelly and lion hearted Paul O’Sullivan among others should be good enough to edge out Kenmare, but there is no guarantee as it is club v divisional board in round 1 where it can be a potential banana skin for district teams..

Hope to see a great turnout of spectators in what promises to be a great clash.

Drive for Five

CONGRATULATIONS to Peter Keane his management and panel as they have qualified for the fifth All Ireland final in-a-row and in doing so attempting to make it five in-a-row.

It’s hardly surprising Peter’s name is being mentioned along with a few more South Kerry men in the quest to replace Éamonn Fitzmaurice in most challenging job in Kerry at the moment.

I take this opportunity to thank the outgoing management for their efforts of the last number of years and wish Éamonn Fitzmaurice and Maurice Fitzgerald all the best in their new posts as principals of Pobalscoil Corca Duibhne and Colaiste na Sceilge respectively.
