U-16 county titles for Ballymac, Beaufort and Glenflesk

- COISTE NA NOG County U-16 Football Finals

Ballymacelligott 5-11 Fossa 4-8

DARRAGH Leen, Adam O’Keeffe, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, and Darragh Broderick from huge distance made it 0-4 to 0-2 in Ballymac’s favour. Emmett O’Shea had already shown how dangerous a threat he was with two fine points, and he rattled the net twice in quick succession, the excellent Ruairi Doyle the provider on both occasions. 2-2 to 0-4.

Ballymac were playing some fantastic team football, though, and promptly hit the net twice themselves through Adam Sheehy and Darragh Sweeney. Darragh Broderick, immense in midfield throughout, pointed before Sean Horan swooped in for 1-1to make it 3-6 to 2-2. Ballymac kept pressing all over the field and were rewarded with a string of points from outstanding play-maker Dunne Moriarty , Broderick (2), and Adam O’Keeffe, while Emmett O’Shea pointed a Fossa free. The half-time score was Ballymac 3-10 Fossa 2-3.

Adam O’Keeffe goaled on the restart but Emmett O’Shea with a well-struck penalty and himself and Ruairi Doyle with points gave Fossa hope. Sean Horan pointed for Ballymac but the irrepressible O’Shea and Harry Buckley brought it back to 4-11 to 3-7 – Monagahn had trailed the Kerry minors by as much just a week beforehand and very nearly won that game – but Donal Daly with a great goal finally put the game out of reach.

Fossa never gave up, Jack Clifford reacting fastest to fist home in a crowded square, but it was Darragh Broderick on behalf of Ballymac who received the Division Four Trophy from Jer Lynch of Kerry Coiste na nOg. DIVISION 5 FINAL Beaufort 2-17 Renard/St. Marys 3-13

THERE was a strong wind in Cromane that was always going to play a part in Cromane. Beaufort had it in the first half and made full use.

Sean Kissane marshalled the defence superbly, while Ethan Coffey and a superb Sean O’Brien in midfield powered the engine as they opened up a 2-10 to 0-3 gap by half-time, Sean Teehan scoring St. Marys/Renard’s tally. That would put a lot of games to bed – not this one!

St. Marys/Renard had that wind in the second half, and they also made a very astute switch in putting Tadhg O’Connor in to full forward. He had 1-1 to his name rapidly and gave a superb exhibition, a fox in the hen house from then on. With himself and Sean Teehan in top form,, that gap was soon being whittled down, while Brendan Kelly at the other end stymied Beaufort’s attacking play.

Sean O’Brien was still playing very well, though, and some tremendous scores by Kerry minor Jack O’Connor late on meant that were ahead by a nose in a pulsating finish to a great and entertaining game of football. DIVISION 6 FINAL Glenflesk 4-17 St. Senans 3-9

GLENFLESK made a powerful start, Kevin Bowler, Michael Mullane, Dara Tangney, and Tommy Bowler all on target while John Kelliher drew a great save out of St. Senans’ keeper Eoin Relihan. Tommy Bowler made it 1-4 to 0-1 with a great strike.

Mikey Kelliher, razor sharp all through for St. Senans, had their lone point and added a brilliant goal. Tomas Dillon added a free to make it 1-4 to 1-2. Glenflesk pushed on again, though, Dylan Roche, Dara Tangney, and Sam Casey on target before Sam Casey cracked home their second goal. Mikey Kelliher pulled one back after Darragh Keane was fouled, but Eoin Moynihan, and absolute powerhouse in midfield all day, scored a long distance brace (1f) to stretch the lead.

Gavin Parker and Kelliher trimmed the gap, but Senans needed another super save from Eoin Relihan in the meanwhile. Emmett Finnan closed out Glenflesk’s first half scoring with a free. The half-time score was Glenflesk 2-10 St. Senans 1-6.

Tomas Dillon, who switched repeatedly between midfield and full forwaad to telling effect in the second half, gave St. Senans a lifeline with a superb goal. An unruffled Glenflesk replied with points from Emmett Finnan (f) and Killian O’Sullivan. Tomas Dillon’s free made it 2-13 to 2-7 and all to play for.

Kevin Bowler saw a goal attempt come back off the woodwork for Glenflesk but Rory O’Mahony was equally unlucky at the other end, denied superbly by Dylan Doonan. Aodhan Behan with two cut the gap to four. However, Tommy Bowler’s second goal followed by two points from Emmett Finnan expanded the gulf again, with Killian O’Sullivan’s point making it 3-16 to 2-9. Tomas Dillon struck for a majestic goal and Rory O’Mahony was bare fractions wide with another attempt.

However, Tommy Bowler completed his hat-trick before his last point ensured that Glenflesk captain Eoin Moynihan would be collecting the trophy from Tom Keane of Coiste na nOg.
