Teutonic session was hottest ticket in town
ONE particular addition to the festival line up proved remarkably popular drawing a huge crowd to the Dome on Saturday night.
The Oktoberfest event –a mini version of the world famous beer based festival in Munich – sold out a week in advance and in the days leading up to the epic drinking party local social media lit up with requests from punters desperately seeking tickets for the session.
A few hundred were available on the door but those very snapped up very quickly by the large crowd that gathered around the ticket hut in the Rose Hotel car park.
Inside the craic was mighty with two German Oompah brass bands taking it in turns to keep the steadily growing crowd entertained with a medley of tunes.
A lively take on that German 80’s classic ‘99 Red Balloons’ was especially enjoyable.
Plenty of people also followed the organisers’ encouragement to don German dress and there were quite a few Dirndl and Lederhosen sporting damen and herren to be found enjoying the teutonic get-together.
If there was one irritating aspect to the evening it was the token based bar set up which involved lengthy queues and a long wait to get to the bar.
Not an ideal situation at a beer based event and something the organisers should probably reconsider.
That’s a minor quibble. All in all it was a tremendous night and hopefully it will make a return next year.
