1. STACKS PREP FOR ‘STRICTLY COME DANCING’

NOW into its eight year, the Austin Stacks GAA club are again this month preparing to host their ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ fundraiser.

This years event will take place on Saturday August 25 in the Festival Dome when 14 couples take to the dance floor in a bid to be crowned the nights best dancer.

Tickets for the night are expected to sell out quickly. They will cost €20 and are on sale from club members, Kevin Barry’s shop and Garvey’s Supervalu.

2. KERRY 100K AND 50K RUN SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

RUNNERS from all over Kerry and further afield are this week putting the final touches on preparatio­ns for the annual Kerry 100km and 50km runs.

Taking place on Saturday August 25, runners will get to enjoy the very best of Kerry scenery as they travel through stunning North Kerry.

3. CHARLIE CHAPLIN FESTIVAL ARRIVES IN WATERVILLE

WATERVILLE is preparing to enjoy another busy weekend this month as the annual Charlie Chaplin Comedy Festival returns to the South Kerry town.

This years festival will run from Thursday August 23 to Sunday August 26; always a great weekend - there is a full list of the events taking place over on the Chaplin Film Festival website.

4. MIKE DENVER SET TO ENTERTAIN THE INEC

THE musical talents of Mike Denver will be on show in the INEC in Killarney tonight (August 22) and there are still currently tickets left to buy for the show.

Doors for this show are set to open at 8:30pm with the show itself starting at 9:30pm

Tickets for the show will cost just €15 normally while it will cost 10 for hotel residents.

5. SOUTH KERRY BOOKS ON SHOW IN CAHERSIVEE­N

AN exhibition of books about South Kerry will be shown in the Cahersivee­n Library from August 23 to September.

The exhibition will have its official opening at 6:30pm on Thursday August 23; refreshmen­ts will be provided and everyone is encouraged to attend.

6. GREAT SHOWBANDS NIGHT IN DUAGH

THERE is a great night in store in Duagh later this month on Thursday August 30 when the Duagh Sports complex plays host to the fantastic ‘Bringing back the Showbands Concert’.

Taking place on Thursday August 30, musicians such as Paddy Cole, Linda Martin and Ronan Collins will perform on the night.

Doors open at 7:30pm and tickets are €25.

7. FAMILY FUN IN CHURCHILL THIS WEEKEND

THE Spa/Fenit area are set to host a great weekend this weekend, all as part of National Heritage Week.

The Old Forge in Churchill will be the main hub of the activities over the weekend which will run on both Friday August 24 and Saturday August 25.

A vintage car and tractor run will take place from 7pm the Friday while a day of family fun activities will take place at the Forge on Saturday.

8. GNEEVEGUIL­A PREPS FOR ANNUAL CARNIVAL

THERE are fun times ahead at the Gneeveguil­a GAA annual Carnival which will take place From Friday August 24 to Sunday August 26.

The weekend will be choc-abloc with fantastic activities such as music from s Garth Brooks tribute band, the annual parade on Sunday, the family treasure hunt and an intriguing event known as the ‘Pony Party’.

Everyone is encouraged to attend Gneeveguil­la this weekend.

9. GREAT NIGHT OF DANCING AT KERINS O’RAHILLYS CLUB

IF you’re looking for a different type of night out and a bit of a dance, then make sure to head down to the Kerins O’Rahillys clubhouse on Wednesday nights.

Every Wednesday night from 9pm to 11pm, a new band will perform in the clubhouse; admission on the night is €10

Tonight (August 22) will see the Dermot Lyons band take to the stage.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are five parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel, Inch Beach and the Tralee junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old.
