Tim’s memory lives on through superb donation

- By TADHG EVANS

AS Linda Bartlett told The Kerryman, she and her fellow organisers did not want their last memory of her father, Tim Bartlett, to be of his living with dementia.

After his passing in August of last year, Linda; Tim’s daughter-in-law, Susan Bartlett; son, Adrian Bartlett; and daughter, Louise Cronin got together with the aim of doing something positive in his memory.

And in that venture, with the help of many people from both within and outside the family circle, they most certainly succeeded.

With a number of ventures including a fund-raising quiz; participation by Linda and Susan in the Dublin City Marathon; and a Rapunzel Foundation haircut undertaken by Tim’s granddaughter, Aoibhe, they managed to raise more than €3,530 for the Fuschia Ward at Killarney Community Hospital – proceeds which were presented on Saturday.

“We didn’t want our last memories of Dad to be of his dementia,” Linda explained this week. “Dad was very well known and was great with people, so we wanted to create a positive lasting memory.

“We set up a comfort fund for Fuschia Ward, where Dad was before he passed away. We presented the funds we raised on Saturday, and the money will go towards high support chairs,” she added.

A traffic warden and a member of the local fire brigade, Tim, who hailed from Coolgraine Park, was a well-known man locally, and with a fitting tribute to his name now secured, Linda took the time to thank all those who made the organisers’ vision a reality.

“I cannot thank the people who helped us, and those who donated, enough,” she said.

“After all, without them, we wouldn’t have been able to hand over the cheque at the weekend.”
