DENNY DIVISION 1A Asdee Rovers 1 Ballyhar Dynamos 4

BALLYHAR Dynamos faultless start to the new season continued at Craughdarrig Park on Sunday with a comfortable win over Asdee Rovers who are now pointless after two games.

A strong down field wind had a significant bearing on this game and Asdee had it to their backs in the first half. Consequently they had the lion’s share of possession, but did not make full use of it.

Asdee created an early chance with Seamus O’Sullivan forcing a corner kick which was delivered into the box by Padraig O’Neill and Cillian Beasley headed it over the top.

Kenneth Tydings had another decent opportunity but he shot wide while Joseph Lynch had a great chance when the Ballyhar keeper slipped, but he put his low shot wide. It took Ballyhar fourteen minutes to produce their first scoring chance with Evan Cosgrove setting up Ed Kerrisk, but he shot wide.

Then Ballyhar hit on the counter attack with Rafa Sync putting in Evan Cosgrove who was in a race for the ball with Asdee keeper Eoin Tydings who brought him down inside the box and referee James Bailey pointed to the spot.

Conal Murphy put away the spot kick in clinical fashion low to the bottom corner of the net. Their lead only lasted five minutes when Kenneth Tydings delivered a great cross into the box to Joseph Lynch who showed great composure to tease out the keeper and his shot went in off the right hand post.

Ballyhar then put a few good chances together, but Rafa Sync was denied by a save by the Asdee keeper, Ed Kerrish put an effort over the top while Diarmuid O’Mahony shot low and wide when he should have done better. Ballyhar looked comfortable at the interval as they would have the wind assistance in the second half.

They went ahead seven minutes into the second half when the Asdee defence were marked absent at the back and Niall Mc Carthy ran on to a long delivery out of defence and he finished to the net from close range.

They put clear daylight between the sides five minutes later when Rafa Sync ran on to an accurately measured cross and he steered the ball past the Asdee keeper.

They were very unlucky not to extend their lead three minutes later when Niall Mc Carthy latched on to a Diarmuid O’Mahoney cross and his shot hit the right hand post went across the goals and hit the other post and was scrambled to safety by the Asdee rearguard.

Ballyhar put the icing on the cake five minutes later when Trevor O’Shea came off the bench to score their fourth goal.

It was a very impressive win by Ballyhar who will be fancying their chances of making a bid for the league title while newly promoted Asdee could have a fight on their hands surviving in this division.
