ABBEYDORNEY TO BATTLE IT OUT ON STAGE ONCE MORE

-

ABBEYDORNEY Hurling Club is set to reprise one of the biggest events in its history when hundreds of members take to the Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Sunday, October 28 next, for Battle of the Parish 2.

Already, more than 60 brave souls are rehearsing intensely for the big night with the help of choreographer Cassie Leen, as they polish routines based on famous scenes from the movies.

PRO of the club Mary Roche said that Abbeydorney is hoping for a big boost in club fortunes from the night, much as was the case in 2016 when it first ran what would turn out to be a hugely popular event.

Over 600 attended Battle of the Parish number one, in a night that raised over €23,000 for Abbeydorney Hurling Club, allowing it to develop its grounds.

But it is also about helping vital charities, Mary added: “Assisting charitable organisations raises awareness about the tireless work they do for the benefit of others, and it fits well with the values of the GAA.

“A percentage of the proceeds raised from our Battle of the Parish event will be donated to the Kerry Hospice Foundation, which we hope will help in some way to champion their fund-raising efforts.”

Mary said the charity’s relationship with the GAA is a special one. “The Kerry Hospice Foundation is a voluntary organisation that provides funding and support for Palliative Care Services in Kerry. Most of you are familiar with the wonderful services that the foundation provides for patients who are living with a life-threatening illness. The foundation was selected as one of the charity partners of the GAA for 2018 and Abbeydorney Hurling Club will be contributing.”

Tickets are on sale at €20. The show kicks off with a drinks reception at 6pm, with the curtain going up at 7.15pm sharp.
