The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Let’s ‘Get Kerry Walking’ initiative
FOLLOWING on from the success of their first walk around Castleisland town last month, members of the Castleisland Day Care Centre team have scheduled another for Wednesday, October 31, at 4pm. They will start out from the centre, and they’re inviting members of the public to join, with refreshments in the centre afterwards. With it being Halloween, we may even bump into a few ghouls along the route or see some trick-ortreaters out and about.
Castleisland Day Care Centre hosted its first walk on September 26 in and around the town.
The walk was organised by the staff of Castleisland Day Care Centre after they learned about the week of walking activities in Kerry.
“Let’s Get Kerry Walking the Distance was a great springboard to get us into action” according to nurse manager Marcella Finn.
“We were delighted with the turn out and were blessed with beautiful sunshine for our first ever walk and eighteen adults and one child, in a buggy, took part. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the feel-good factor from the activity, the companionship and, of course, the cup of tea afterwards in the Green Door Restaurant. Such was the success of the walk that everyone who participated agreed that it should be a regular occurrence.
“It was decided there and then that the group will meet on the last Wednesday of every month.
“All we need now is a name for our Group,” Ms Finn concluded.
