Local students have been selected for national internet safety panel

-

IN the world we live in today, use of the internet is a regular part of life. As a result, knowing how to use the internet safely is becoming more and more important.

With that in mind it caused great excitement in St Patrick’s and Presentation Secondary Schools when two students of the joint Transition Year programme were selected to participate on a national internet safety panel.

Danute Voveryte from Castleisland and Ian O’Neill from Currow have been selected to represent the schools on a 30-person national advisory panel for Webwise.

This panel works in conjunction with the Department of Education and Skills and the EU Safer Internet Programme, and it hopes to educate and promote dialogue between children, teachers and parents on safe and appropriate use of the internet and new media.

As part of the advisory panel, Ian and Danute are well placed to provide information on how internet and social media use relates to people of their age today. These two students will become Safer Internet Ambassadors and design Safer Internet day campaigns for schools all over the country to implement.

Having two local schools represented on this national panel is a great resource for the locality and a progressive opportunity for the two students and the schools involved.
