History as renowned local play comes back to life

- By TADHG EVANS

THERE’LL be a little bit of history in the CYMS Hall in Killorglin later this month as one of the plays written by a late and well-respected member of the local community comes to life again.

On November 22 and 23 at 8pm, ‘He Never Sang for Me’ – a play by Michael Ahern first performed 36 years ago – will go on show in the iconic venue for the first time in decades.

Featuring many members of the original cast and directed by John A O’Brien, the play will take place as a fund-raiser for Killorglin Archive Society.

Edso Crowley took the time to fill us in on the historic event scheduled to take place later this month, first produced by the Caragh Lake Drama Group.

“We’re holding this with kind permission from the Ahern family, and Gene Ahern will be there on the night in a leading role,” Edso said.

“It was one of three plays put together by Michael C Ahern, who was a well-regarded local solicitor.”

The entire cast runs to 15 members, Edso explained, and excitement is already high with more than a fortnight to go until show-time.

The cost of attending on the night is €12, and you can get your tickets by getting in contact with CYMS Community Hall.
