The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Helping Kerry students on their way
THIS is the fourth year of the College Awareness Week, and the Kerry Branch of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (ICG) has organised a careers fair and parent information talks to coincide with this.
Scheduled for Wednesday, November 21, in Killarney’s Great Southern Hotel, the event is open to the public and second-level schools, Kerry Branch of Guidance Counsellors PRO Niamh O’Dwyer explained to The Kerryman this week, and it will take place from 9am to 3pm on the day at an admission price of €3.
“Universities and Institutes of Technology from throughout Ireland will have stands at the event, as well as some colleges from the UK and Europe,” she said. “Post-Leaving Certificate Colleges (PLCs) from Kerry, Cork and Limerick will be represented as well as agricultural colleges, the Defence Forces and An Garda Síochána, and organisations providing apprenticeship training such as Kerry Education and Training Board.”
There will also be representatives from grants and access schemes, with talks on PLCs, apprenticeships, the CAO system, and more also taking place throughout the day, while a series of free information talks for parents have been scheduled from 7pm at the same venue on November 20.
“There are lots of options out there, and College Awareness Week encourages people of all ages to consider further education as part of their future,” Ms Dwyer said.
