Cahill upbeat for future after latest success

AFTER another injury scare prior to last Sunday’s Final, Tommy Cahill did well to play a full and telling part in a fourth Mid Kerry success for this present group, a success where they laid a few ghosts from the defeat to Beaufort last year to rest somewhat.

“It was nice to reverse what happened last year where we were the team with the lead before we capitulated near the end. Laune Rangers are a great up and coming team and we looked in massive trouble there in the second-half. Thankfully we just kept plugging away doing the simple things and getting the scores to keep us in the game,” the Glenbeigh / Glencar wing-forward said.

Coming back to going three and four points down with the next scores was crucial n Cahill’s opinion as he said the significance of winning four titles in eight years for the club was not lost on their older contingent in the club.

“We’ve nearly doubled the club’s total entirely with these four wins and it’s a great way for Aidan and Peter to finish as a management. They finally got us over the line when it came to winning the Junior Championship because the losses were really started to grate on the likes of Fergal Griffin, Stephen O’Sullivan and Darran who had been with the club since we were down in Division 5 and looked like they would be getting nothing for their efforts,” he said.

Cahill acknowledged the disappointing year for the club in general beyond Mid Kerry, but feels the return of Darran O’Sullivan to the club’s ranks can keep them competitive heading into 2019.

“I remember growing up seeing him play with the Kerry Minors and wanting to be like him.

“He should give us massive momentum coming back and whoever the new manager will be I think we are capable of competing for the Intermediate Championship even from Division 2.”
