Leahy proud of Causeway hurlers and optimistic for future

-

DISAPPOINTMENT, obviously, for the Causeway manager Maurice Leahy, but he was optimistic about the future in terms of how his young charges can learn and benefit from this loss, and go on to achieve Championship success.

“A good game, we were on top in the first half, but you always knew Ballyduff weren’t going to go down easy after, that’s the way Ballyduff are made, and that’s what happened in the second half,” Leahy said.

“We did warn the boys about it, that this was what we were going to expect from Ballyduff in the second half, but the fitness from the football and everything like that, I mean Mikey Boyle took the game by the scruff of the neck around the middle of the field. Podge (Padraig Boyle) came into the game more, they are big strong physical players.

“It was a great game though. I am proud of our fellows. We have a young team and we will be there in the future, but Ballyduff were better in the second half today, and probably deserved their couple of points win.

“The average age this year was 21 in the Championship, they are a young team, and if they stick together they will get results in the future. They are superb hurlers. They will learn from today, they will learn from the championship result against Lixnaw, and, they will come and win championships, and I will put my house on that.

“But they have to take results like this on the chin and get up and move on. These kind of results you learn from and they make you stronger, and that’s what will happen with these fellows. They won’t see it today but they will see it in the future.”
