The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Hard work and community spirit alive in Killarney
THE magic of Christmas in Killarney town wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and community spirit amongst all.
The events of the season are organised by the committee of Christmas in Killarney, which was set up in 2005, who work closely with Kerry County Council and Killarney Chamber of Tourism & Commerce, local organisations and businesses and of course, the general public.
After the committee spend a long time preparing for the festive season, the tradition each year in Killarney is to kick Christmas off with an abundance of magic with the Big Opening Magical Christmas Parade. The committee’s aim each year is to bring magic to Killarney through holding a range of events that include all members of the community.
Aside from festive events held in the town, locals each year embrace the true meaning of Christmas and one way is through the massive support that the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal receives each year. Many schools and individuals in the area took part in the appeal this year and it is no doubt their kindness and generosity will make a significant difference to children’s lives internationally.
Be sure to also come out and support locals over the festive period through the various food and craft fairs being held throughout the area and attend charity and fundraising events such as the wonderful concerts that will be held in the run up to Christmas.
