BALLYBUNION TAKEAWAY FINED FOR BREACH OF HYGIENE RULES
THE operator of a takeaway in Ballybunion was fined €500 for breaches of hygiene regulations after a HSE inspector informed the district court of hygiene concerns discovered there on August 8 last.
Shahid Rauf of Palm Griffin, Goulane, Castlegregory, was prosecuted by the HSE at Listowel District Court on Thursday for breaches of the Hygiene of Foodstuffs Regulations 2006 at Mr Kebab on Main Street, Ballybunion.
HSE Environmental Officer Anne Hussey submitted photographs to the Listowel District Court on Thursday as she informed Judge David Waters of a number of issues discovered on the August 8 inspection. The majority of the issues were ‘cleaning’ ones, she explained.
Surfaces in the yard of Mr Kebab were congealed with grease; the main wash basin in use was ‘filthy’, she said, with heavy brown stains; the fridge had evidence of mould; and an ‘insectocutor’ was full of dead flies.
The Court heard the premises was first served with an ‘improvement notice’ in 2015 and had been inspected every nine months since.
Ms Hussey accepted that there had been ‘substantial’ improvement at Mr Kebab since the August 8 inspection. Solicitor John Cashell said his client was the legal operator but was not directly responsible for the business.
Judge David Waters opted to fine Mr Rauf the minimum €500 as Mr Rauf had no previous convictions.
